Sandra Iskandar is a Principal at GBCA (Goldsmith Borgal & Company Ltd. Architects), a full-service architectural firm, with an established reputation in the heritage sector, the firm has worked on more than 20 National Historical Sites in Canada.

For more than 10 years, she oversaw her own firm (Sandra Iskandar Architect). Prior to that, Sandra was a key member of the Pan American Games Infrastructure Department preparing for the games held in Toronto in 2015. These experiences exposed her to a spectrum of projects in the public, private and non-profit sectors.  Sandra focuses on cultural projects and adaptive re-use – integrating contemporary architectural expression with historic buildings.  Some of her adaptive re-use projects include the Ontario Water Centre’s Clear Water Farm, no9 Gardens, the Spadina Museum Re-restoration project, the Parry Sound Performing Art Centre, and the Tyendinaga Language Centre. Sandra’s GBCA projects include: Massey Hall, PAMA/ Peel Art Museum and Archives, Bruce County Museum and Archives (Southampton), Whitby Station Gallery. and Toronto’s National Ballet School.

Sandra holds a professional degree in Architecture from Carleton University, where she led a first-year Architectural Design Studio for an Associate Professor.  She is currently the lead bilingual architectural educator for an award-winning program called Imagining my Sustainable Community held by the non-profit organization No.9 Contemporary Art and Environment.  Her volunteer work includes serving as an Executive board member of the Hamilton and Burlington Society of Architects, Treasurer of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario-Hamilton Chapter, and Director and Committee Chair with the Friends of the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives and she recently joined BEAT as Executive Treasurer and tours coordinator. 

For her dedication, Sandra was bestowed a 2025 Ontario Volunteer Service Award from the Secretariat Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism.
