Please join us in celebrating Shirley Blumberg, Brigitte Shim, and Betsy Williamson’s work in founding BEAToronto, and their contributions in stewarding the organization through its first decade! Inspired by the Order of Canada’s recognition of those desiring a better country, Shirley Blumberg worked with Betsy Williamson and Brigitte Shim to initiate BEAT—Building Equality in Architecture Toronto—back in 2015. The group has since hosted over 127 events, with a total of over 6,200 registered attendees, and has featured over 90 women as speakers. As Shirley, Brigitte, and Betsy take a step back from their formal involvement in BEAToronto, we hope you will join us in raising a glass in celebration of all that they have done for the community of women architects in Toronto and beyond! Their stalwart commitment, advocacy and mentorship has left an indelible mark on the design profession at large.

BEAT is currently seeking a Programming Assistant to help support our organization’s growing and diverse initiatives. Working closely with the BEAT Executive and our volunteers, the Programming Assistant will provide logistical and communication support to a variety of initiatives which include a mix of in-person and virtual events. Our current programming includes talks, workshops, seminars, networking events and social gatherings. We are committed to making high quality, accessible and relevant events open to all. We are a small, nimble, all hands on deck organization and the candidate will have the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to the many aspects of the programs we offer, while expanding their network within a creative and dynamic professional design conscious group. Work hours are flexible and will mostly be done remotely. Attendance at some in-person events and key meetings throughout the year will be required. All BEAT events are within downtown Toronto or transit-connected neighbourhoods. Given the nature of our events, some weekend and evening hours will be required. These events will be scheduled in advance.
